What's Next?

We are a republic. Could the Confederate flag fly where it does, in front of our capitol, unless the citizens of South Carolina wanted it to fly there? Steve Spurrier earns an entry in Politicians from Hell for sheer effrontery to the sensibilities of the good citizens of South Carolina for publicly criticizing this, their chosen symbol . Before he came here he could not have been unaware of our affection for this symbol, and yet he came on. And now that he is here his choice is gratuitously to offend us. May his stay in South Carolina be short, and his loose lips be remembered as a lesson in the worst kind of manners.

The following observations on vexillary obsessives appears in the very excellent blog, SCLoS Historian.

Steve Spurrier, the NAACP, and sensitive souls everywhere claim to be horrified by that 48-inch square piece of nylon at the Confederate soldier monument on South Carolina’s State House grounds. If only it disappeared, all would be right with the world.

Aiken Flagging

Saturday July 28,2007

The Redshirts of South Carolina went into action again to meet the presidential candidate Sen.. John McCain in Aiken at the east entrance to the Woodside Plantation. We set up the nasty toilet with the flushed figure on the roadside and several confederate flags and signs saying "the south does not want Mccain". We apparently did stir the ire of the republicans since we were forced to leave by the Aiken city police.

McCain is a CFR, supports one world order and open borders.

Emergency Internment Camps? What Emergency?

This entry in Wikipedia illustrates just how far the Tyrant in Chief has gone, and how far he is prepared to go.

Emergency internment camps are currently under construction on U.S. soil by Halliburton’s subsidiary KBR (formerly Kellogg, Brown and Root). According to Business Wire, on January 24, 2006, KBR announced that it had been awarded a $385 million contingency contract by the Department of Homeland Security to build "temporary detention and processing facilities." Dave Lindorff has reported in CounterPunch that "these detention camps [are] reportedly capable of confining as many as 400,000 people, and a recent report [states] that the Pentagon has a document, dated June 1, 2007, classified Top Secret, which declares there to be a developing 'insurgency' within the U.S, and which lays out a whole martial law counterinsurgency campaign."

This essay appeared in The Market Oracle.

The remarkable rapidity of the Union's plunge into darkest thuggery conjures up half understood memories of other totalitarian experiments. In this fascinating report, Mr. Whitney compares Bush's Operation Falcon with Hitler's Night of the Long Knives.

The events unfolding now are stripping away the last thin vener of feigned respect for individual rights from the executive branch of the federal government. The Decider in Chief has orchestrated a state of perpetual crisis, necessitating, he has made exceedingly clear, the elimination of every one of the civil guarantees for which we, as a people, have paid so dearly, and in the sanctity of which, we have invested our entire faith. To him, they are no more than so many impediments to his exercise of total control. Our rights, including presumption of innocence, due process, freedom of speech, protection against arbitrary search and seizure, and all the rest have now been rendered thoroughly contingent.

At last we awake. Is it already too late?

On 29th June, 1934, Chancellor Adolph Hitler, accompanied by the Schutzstaffel (SS), arrived at Wiesse, where he personally arrested the leader of the Strum Abteilung (SA), Ernnst Roehm. During the next 24 hours 200 other senior SA officers were arrested on the way to Wiesse. Many were shot as soon as they were captured but Hitler decided to pardon Roehm because of his past service to the movement. However, after much pressure from Hermann Goering and Heinrich Himmler, Hitler agreed that Roehm should die.

This Can't Be Happening!

Are you ready for this? Of course not.

Yet when it does come, a whole lot of folks won't even care - and many will actually be pleased. "It's about time a strong leader laid down the law," they will say.

Practice saying "when" instead of "if".

We are simply at a certain point on a political continuum at which the future seems unusually apparent. The fall of the USSR left the grossly over-armed US military industrial complex with a "window of opportunity" to gain control of "everything" to become the universal hegemon. Only one problem. There was an enemy vacuum. Nine/eleven solved that, at least temporally, until China can take the Middle East's place. And along the way, domestic dissent (redefined as a domestic terrorism threat) will play an important role as bogeyman in residence.

We have waited and watched in amazed dismay as the unthinkable gradually became commonplace. Yet the lust for power, unchecked, knows no bounds.

This essay by Dave Lindorff points out that everything is in place for the final shoe to fall.

He writes:

As we go about our daily lives--our shopping, our escapist movie watching, and even our protesting and political organizing—we need to be aware that there is a real risk that it could all blow up, and that we could find ourselves facing armed, uniformed troops at our doors.

Martial Law Threat is Real

The looming collapse of the US military in Iraq, of which a number of generals and former generals, including former Chief of Staff Colin Powell, have warned, is happening none too soon, as it may be the best hope for preventing military rule here at home."

John McCain flagging at the Beacon Restaurant

Written by a SCLoS member who was there:

Spartanburg, S.C., July 28, 2007

An email arrived in the inbox on Friday evening, July 27th, announcing McCain would be in S.C. and needed to be flagged. He visited three locations in S.C. on Saturday. The email targeted the Spartanburg event as the one to flag in the Upcountry. (As far as I know, no one flagged McCain at the Stax Restaurant in Greenville at 8:45 am.)

Most of the demonstrators arrived before 11:00 am at the Beacon’s parking lot. Flags and signs were distributed.

Someone had already put up a couple of “Ron Paul” banners on the chain link fence in front of the Beacon. We then realized we were not alone. There were some Ron Paul people there to take on McCain face-to-face. All total I estimate (10) were there to protest McCain. But, I may not have counted all the Ron Paul folks.

We know not how or exactly when McCain arrived. It was not in a campaign bus.

He started his little chat-with-the-voters thing on the restaurant patio. We could see his runt-like diminutive form in a black suit with his back to us. We started shouting things at him like: “John McCain, Down The Drain” and “S.C. does not want John McCain”. Other things were shouted about his liberalism and communism, etc. and how we weren’t interested.

We were sufficiently loud to drive the McCainanites off the patio and back into the restaurant.

At that point, some of the flaggers put their stuff away and went in to the meeting to call McCain a traitor and other things. This was recorded on a flagger’s video, BTW.

They (the flaggers) came back out after a while and resumed demonstrating. We had Confederate flags flapping in the breeze the whole time.

A short time later, McCain came back out on the patio to make the rounds greeting people before he left. “Dixie” was played on a musical bullhorn to add some atmosphere to McCain’s departure and remind him we had not forgotten about what he said about our flag.

McCain departed in a SUV to the tune of “Dixie” and Confederate flags.

A couple of McCain supporters cursed one of the flaggers. A campaign manager came over and was visibly miffed and angered at our presence and tried to say that McCain didn’t say what he, in fact, did say, about the flag. He left in a huff.

The demonstration was a success and the Greenville County SCLoS was there.

Many thousands of people passing by got a clear message on how S.C. feels about McCain.

We had no problems with the police or the restaurant management. Most of the flaggers bought food and drinks at the establishment. We kept our receipts to prove we were customers if a problem should come up.

We departed about 1:45-2:00 pm.

McCain remains the same McCain

While in South Carolina, recently, for the Republican debate, McCan't stated that the flag issue had been decided (by the state of South Carolina) and should be laid to rest. However, as this news article relates, his message is muy flexible.

Here he says that his campaign staff made me do it (declare, in 2000, the flag to be solely a state issue), that he had been a coward to say so and that he lied when he said it. He also implied that it was a stupid mistake, as well, as the lie didn't even gain him the victory in South Carolina, for which it had been fabricated.

So, is it a South Carolina issue or not? For John McCan't it still depends on geography - and he is going to loose in South Carolina again. Some things never change.

From a Concord Monitor news article:

At a town hall meeting in Manchester yesterday, Sen. John McCain looked back to his 2000 bid for the presidency. It was one of his low moments, he said, when he took the advice of his political consultants and said something he didn't believe to voters in the South Carolina primary.

When asked about his views on the Confederate Flag at the time, he said it was a choice that should be left up to the states.

'It was an act of cowardice, and I lost the South Carolina primary anyway,' McCain said.

Executive Order: Blocking Property of Certain Persons

The fifth amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees that the government is constrained from depriving a citizen of his life, liberty or property without due process.

In contravention of this guarantee, the following executive order, signed by George W. Bush on 17 July 2007, gives Henry Merritt Paulson, who became Treasury Secretary on 10 July 2006, the power to seize any person's assets without warning, on "suspicion" alone, that they might, in future, commit an unlawful act.

George W. Bush is simply an amoral man grown so accustomed to power that it has overwhelmed him, exposing a puny impious egomaniac, for whom the sacred covenant is become but "a ........... piece of paper." He is now a man condemned to be remembered as one who forsook the lighted path of legitimate restraint, wandering instead into the dark realm of pure license.

Here, the elements germane to this crime are highlighted in red, and a link is provided to the official press release:

Gloria Arias Haskins

It is unfortunate that, in these times, we are compelled to speak unkindly of a lady who is only doing, for her own people, what she believes she should. However Mrs. Gloria Arias Haskins is obstructing the will of the vast majority of the voters who elected her. She has weighed the desires of her home country's citizens against the desires of the people of her adopted country and chosen in favor of the the former. Mrs. Gloria Arias Haskins, and others like her, must be disempowered, quickly, or they will be unstoppable here as they already are in California.

If this motion had passed, Senate Bill 392 (Illegal Immigration Legislation), already passed by the full Senate, would have gone immediately to the full SC House for a vote.......which by all estimates would have passed by a wide margin only then needing the Governor's signature to become law. "Lindsey Grahamnisty: 'There's Racism In This Debate' [Jim Geraghty]

Lindsey Graham digs the hole deeper:

Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who is one of the architects of the immigration overhaul, said he also had received threats in telephone calls and letters to his office. Mr. Graham said several other senators had told him privately that they also received similar messages.

“There’s racism in this debate,” Mr. Graham said. “Nobody likes to talk about it, but a very small percentage of people involved in this debate really have racial and bigoted remarks. The tone that we create around these debates, whether it be rhetoric in a union hall or rhetoric on talk radio, it can take people who are on the fence and push them over emotionally.”

The End for Senator Grahamnesty?

by Liz Mair
July 6, 2007

Last week, after intensive calling, emailing, and even threatening by opponents of 'amnesty,' the Secure Borders, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Reform Act of 2007— a.k.a., comprehensive immigration reform — finally died in the Senate.

For one of the bill's key supporters, Senator Graham (derided as 'Grahamnesty' by his critics) of South Carolina, one of the questions in the aftermath of the defeat has to be: If the conservative base could bring this bill down, what could they do to me?

Just a few years ago, Mr. Graham was considered a darling of the conservative base, with his work to impeach Bill Clinton and his assumption of the senate seat held for nearly 50 years by Strom Thurmond in 2003. But those days are long gone. Mr. Graham has progressively begun taking positions that put him out of step with conservatives, even if just slightly. And conservatives are not happy.

Immigration has proven to be the killer issue for Mr. Graham — and the numbers suggest it could well be his ultimate demise. A recent poll conducted in his home state shwed that just 21% of voters side with him on the subject, whereas 63% disapprove of his stance. His personal approval rating has plummeted to 31%. Republicans dislike him even more than Democrats — an effect of the continual attacks on him by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Michelle Malkin, not to mention the proliferation of Web sites demanding his ouster, such as "Dump Lindsey Graham" and "Lindsey Graham Career Countdown."

Graham Statement on INVASION FACILITATION BILL

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement on the Senate immigration bill.

“Several months ago, I met with President Bush at the White House to discuss our out-of-control problems with illegal immigration. He asked me if I would help him push immigration reform through Congress and I gave him my word I would. I support President Bush and admire his leadership. I will be forever grateful for his work to try and solve this difficult problem.

What he said: "President Bush and I made it clear we would not compromise on our guiding principle that securing our nation’s borders must be our first priority"

What he meant:President Bush and I made it clear we would not compromise onour guiding principle of opening up and letting them all in.

Our plan made unprecedented efforts and provided over $4.4 billion in funding to secure our nation’s borders and deal with immigration in a comprehensive manner.

“The legislation first and foremost secured our border. It also established a new comprehensive employee verification system for all workers to ensure people are in the country legally and eligible to work."
